Celebrating Gratitude and Character at WZIS: A Reflection on Our PTL Assembly

At Weihai Zhongshi International School (WZIS), we hold both academic achievement and character development in the highest regard. Our assemblies and ceremonies are not only a platform to celebrate academic excellence but also an opportunity to recognize students—our “bobaes”—who embody our core values: Responsibility, Respect, Wisdom, Self-Expression, and Holistic Education. Throughout the year, faculty and staff nominate students who consistently demonstrate these values. Those honored are awarded certificates and enjoy a free smoothie from our popular school café—a small but meaningful gesture of appreciation for their efforts.

This year, the school introduced a new initiative inspired by our President, Moody Lee, called the "Gratitude Olympics." Moody envisions a culture of gratitude not only at WZIS but also extending beyond our school, with kindness rippling across the globe. He often shares his belief that, “A person of great character always has a spirit of gratitude.” By cultivating this spirit, we not only improve our outlook on each day but also our perspective on life as a whole. Gratitude, in its simplest form, has the power to change the world.

During today’s PTL Assembly, our students brought the spirit of gratitude to life through a variety of creative expressions. From skits and music to poetry, storytelling through art, and even dance, our Middle School and High School students showcased their thankfulness in heartfelt and inspiring ways. The enthusiasm was palpable as each grade vied for the top spot, with the winning grades earning pizza, ramen, or ice cream parties—a reward everyone was eager to claim!

It was a beautiful way to close the school day, as we were reminded of the importance of gratitude in our lives. This assembly wasn’t just a showcase of talent and creativity, but a meaningful celebration of thankfulness—a value that can truly shape our hearts and minds.

At WZIS, we believe that gratitude is more than just a fleeting feeling; it’s a way of life. Thank you to all the students and teachers who made today so special. Let’s carry this spirit of gratitude with us as we continue through the school year!
