From Italian Feasts to School Shoes: A Weekend Adventure at Weihai Zhongshi International School (WZIS)
After our second week of school at Weihai Zhongshi International School (WZIS), a Cambridge curriculum school in Weihai, China, a WZIS family took the weekend to relax, purchase additional school supplies, and enjoy authentic Italian cuisine in the city. This family recently relocated from the United States and is in the process of settling into the vibrant and welcoming community of Weihai. Here’s an excerpt from their weekend experience:
We’re still new to Weihai, home of Weihai Zhongshi International School (WZIS), so we’ve been exploring new places and trying to find our favorite restaurants. Our first week here was a bit challenging because we didn’t know how to use local apps, get around town, or even buy food—EVERYTHING is done through WeChat! Once we figured out how to pay with WeChat, everything opened up for us.
WeChat is an all-in-one app widely used in Weihai that lets you order food, pay for groceries, chat with friends, and even call a Didi (the Chinese version of Uber). It’s really a one-stop app for everything—so helpful!
This weekend, we also needed to buy additional shoes for one of our kids. At WZIS, primary students are required to have indoor shoes, which they change into at school. This is something we didn’t have back in the States, so we had to buy a new pair! Thankfully, one of the teachers at Weihai Zhongshi International School kindly helped us find suitable shoes at a great price.
Since the kids were feeling a little homesick, we decided to treat them to some familiar food. We found a restaurant in Weihai called TieYiFang that serves authentic Italian cuisine, and it was fantastic! The kids had margarita pizza, carbonara, Bolognese pasta, and seafood fettuccine in a bread bowl. It really made them feel like they were back home in the United States.
It sounds like the family had a wonderful weekend, and the food looked incredible! We're glad they enjoyed their time in Weihai and are starting to feel more at home.
Now it’s Monday, and the BoBaes are back in class at WZIS, ready to start their third week of school. With the Cambridge curriculum in full swing, students are becoming more comfortable with their schedules and lessons. As autumn approaches, the cooler weather in Weihai is perfect for the school’s house competitions, where the Moose, Hawks, and Wolves compete in friendly games. These activities build up to our Sports Day championship on September 21st. Sports Day is always a fantastic event for students at Weihai Zhongshi International School to exercise, engage in friendly competition, and cheer on their classmates. It looks like September will bring plenty of fun and excitement—not to mention a bit of extra laundry!
